Taking a bit of a page from the "How not to play Hitman" series on Youtube I've decided to make a video play through of Deus Ex. Reductio ad Vis roughly translates to "Reduction to Violence"

For those who don't know Deus Ex is a mix of FPS, RPG, and stealth. You can gear your character up, and learn him the skills such that you can sneak about all Solid Snake, or Sam Fisher like. Alternately you can gear up more like the Green Marine, or Duke Nukem. In my experience trying to do straight stealth, or straight combat is not the easiest, and you end up somewhere in the middle.

Not this time.

No. This time I'm going through without any upgrades to my "Stealthy" skills. Just combat. This means I can't hack computer systems, and trying to lockpick or use multitools is all but worthless.

I've gone one step further though.

Being a big fan of Half-Life, I have a bit of an obsession with the Crowbar. All the way to the point where I'm trying to get as far as possible in Deus Ex (on Medium skill, or higher) relying mostly on the crowbar.

This is an interesting problem though. The crowbar is obviously a close range weapon, but without stealth skills I can't bypass as much combat as I normally could. Can a run like this be done? I'm going to try.

Episode 1

Well that didn't take at all long. Episode one is online! First mission is to attack the terrorists who have retreated into the statue of Liberty! Why they did that is beyond me since my employers have their base on the same island.

Episode 2

Was Episode 1 good? I hope so. I spent a long time working on it! Ok, only about an hour. Still, here's episode episode 2 all done and ready to go. The one took me probably 4-5 hours to finish up, and I expect that number to only rise. Though it might fall as I get better at this.

In this episode we get to go shoot people in Battery Park, beat people in a crummy part of NYC proper, and then shoot people in another crummy part of NYC! Fun for all!

Episode 3

A week later, and I get Episode 3 done and online. This one I had to do twice. In full. The reason for that was the first time I tried recording to a new USB drive that I got. It almost worked. The only problem was that I was getting random blue or red vertical stripes on the video. I wasn't pleased by that.

Technical notes aside, Episode 3 features the assault on the airfield, and the required plot twist. I skip all the investigation stuff at the start by knowing two door codes.

Episode 4

So, now that the plot has twisted, what do we do? Betray the trust of our employers! This episode starts off a bit slow, but around the half way mark things get exceedingly violent. In fact, I think this is the most violent part so far.

Episode 5

Well that was all well and fun, but it had to end some time. I guess that's game over for me. What's that? The people at MJ12 didn't kill me, but rather just stuck me in a holding cell? That wasn't very bright of them. I guess it's time to hand in my official resignation and break heads while I break out!
Of course, there's the little matter of no weapons, no items, no bio-electric, but I'm sure things will work out themselves.
