Donkey Konga 2 (USA)
Nintendo Gamecube (USA)
4 Player
So this is the second and last game to be released in America. It is also the last to be released in the entire Donkey Konga series of games. It was not that the game play was getting stale really, but more of if you are going to play a music game, you expect to play the original music and singers, not just cover bands. Plus this was the fifth game in all of Konga drumming for me.
I am going to be really lazy because Wikipedia says it best: The main selling point of Donkey Konga 2 is over 30 new songs to play with the Bongos. Other features include slightly improved graphics, the inclusion of some classic Donkey Kong characters and a variety of new minigames.
One point that may have led to some backlash against the sequel was the initial song list. Blu Cantrell's "Hit Em Up Style" was a questionable inclusion to many. The title "Wish You Were Here" led many to believe Pink Floyd had a song in the game. However, the song was actually the Incubus song "Wish You Were Here." No artists were named in the song list, and no real songs are used. The songs are cover songs from generic singers, and all the songs are shortened in some form.
"Rest in Peace" Donkey Konga. You had a fun two year run creating pleasant memories along the way. Nintendo has tried to keep the drum literally alive with Donkey Kong's Jungle Beat. But not that was enough especially when their last ditch effort was a barrel racing game they ended up porting to the Nintendo Wii. (Although that did not really matter, because that racing game failed horribly!)
