Donkey Konga (1 American)
Nintendo Gamecube (USA)
4 Player
The American version took nine months after the Japanese version to come out but only two month after the Japanese sequel . I had looked forward to the release because it meant a new song list to play to.But even better was that within less than one year I now had three games worth of songs totally up to about 100 songs to play to! Plenty of multiplayer fun to look forward to! Even though now the new songs were in English with cover bands rather than the real songs the game was still just as fun. Not much changed between the localization of the game. The controls all stayed the same. And it still had all the mini games. It was really cool to see the Nintendo ads for the games on television. They really captured the fun of the games well in the small ads!
One added bonus was that now I could understand everything! Apparently there was a story in this game! It went as follows: Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are hanging out at the beach one day when they come across some mysterious objects that resemble barrels. Fearing they had something to do with King K. Rool, they take them to Cranky Kong. Cranky explains that they are bongos, so Donkey tries playing them. Diddy tries to do so as well. Then, when Donkey clapped, the bongos started glowing. Cranky explained that the bongos had some kind of power inside them. Donkey and Diddy continue to play the bongos, but they both play terribly. Cranky advises them to practice. At first they are against this, but then they realize if they can become successful in playing the bongos, they could afford as many bananas as they wish, so they start practicing.
One thing that was still bugging me though was that there were still these really weird banana birds hopping around still from the first game. They were not really a hindrance, but they are so freaky looking I couldn’t stop staring at them in wonder what in the world were they? If you ate one would they taste like chicken or a banana? Those workers at Namco are crazy!
However there is at least one song that was not a cover band but the original singer! However this is an original Nintendo song, so I do not know if it counts.
