In my previous review of the first Rayman Raving Rabbids game for Nintendo Wii, the game was very original in its own right and quite a lot of fun. For its sequel, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 on everyone’s favorite little handheld Nintendo DS, Ubisoft mimicked its console counterpart by including its style mini-games. And of course, this review would not exist if one of those mini-games was in fact a rhythm based one! That made me happy because I enjoy my rhythm games on the go!

The first thing I have to mention is that while progressing through the game you have you own personal Raving Rabbid that you customize with items and clothing you unlock during the game. Using the stylus, you can also paint onto your personal Raving Rabbid. Depending what areas of being sadistic, overly cute or just inappropriate designs your imagination takes you, your Rabbid will have a stage presence all its own.

Stage presence? Your Rabbid will take the center stage as the vocals in your band for this mini-game. Your other three band member each present themselves with their own unique, redneck hillbilly presence that is just hilarious to watch. There are six areas of the world each with the own same rhythm mini-game, just the songs are different. It might just be that I play to many rhythm games, but if I encounter the songs “Smoke on the water” or “Celebration” any more times I am seriously going to have to hurt someone! Do not get me wrong, they are great songs. And they are popular enough to please a large majority, but seriously, there are a hundred of other worldly popular songs out there to choose from.

Well time to get to the meat and potatoes of this mini-game, the game play. The bottom screen displays the stage with your four character band with you personal Rabbid front and center doing the vocals. In front of the stage are four speakers which act as the buttons you will be pressing. Blue orbs slowly fall down the screen and you hit the orbs as they cross over the speakers. Once in a blue moon when you hit the orb you will be prompted to follow it back upwards to collide with a static gray orb. All the while the 6 songs are popular mainstream songs but they are sung by the actually Rabbid giving at first a cute rendition, but after 3 minutes makes you want to ram the stylus in your ears!

All in all this one is fun. The quirky cuteness keeps you playing and there are plenty of other unique mini-games that give this game value to keep.
