Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - [Season 1]
Anime Review by VenomSpawnThe year is 2307 AD. During this time fossil fuel supplies are low, and in order to fulfill the world's energy needs humanity has turned to solar power. A system, 20,000 KM in length, with three orbital elevators, has been set up in order to create an effective means of utilizing solar power. The three orbital stations have been placed in key parts of the planet, each under the care of a different group. The Union (composed of the Americas, Australasia, and Japan), the Human Reform League, or HRL (composed of Russia, China, and India), and the AEU (consisting of most of Europe, and Greenland), are the three groups in control of the stations. At this time the world is still not united as one, the planet is still filled with war. Almost out of nowhere, a new group appears known as Celestial Being. Utilizing powerful mobile suits known as “Gundams,” Celestial being plans to eliminate all war on Earth by force.
This anime is about attempting to eradicate war on Earth. Hypocritically, the organization Celestial Being uses Gundams to force the end of battles. Not much, at first, is known about Celestial Being, just that they have a serious advantage over all of the military powers. While the Gundams attempt to bring peace, the Union, HRL, and AEU, attempt to come up with mobile suits, and tactics that can take out the Gundams. Celestial Being might have strength and some skilled pilots, but there are other pilots who might just have enough skill for that added strength to be meaningless. The plot is guaranteed to bring the viewer entertaining fight scenes, shocking plot twists, and great character development.

Gundam 00 has a wide range of character, coming from all sides. The protagonist, a 16 year old boy who grew up in the Kurdish Republic, named Setuna F. Seiei, pilots Gundam Exia. Fighting with Setsuna is Lockon Stratos, Alleluia Haptism, and Tieria Erde. Each one of the pilots have differing stories, and intriguing backgrounds, while still being united by a common goal. One of the opposing pilots is from the Union, known as Graham Acre. Graham... well... quite frankly... “he is a char,” that type of character often found in certain Gundam series, but still is welcomed with open arms. I do not mean to mislead, he is not exactly like char, just a very skilled pilot that bears some visual resemblance. This Gundam series takes a lot of old things done with characters in past Gundam seris, and gives them a different spin, while adding on new, interesting things as well.
Being a Gundam series, the creators didn't go cheap on the animation. High quality, yet somewhat standard character design, is used. The animation of the characters is consistent, making it seem more realistic, and serious. It's nothing original, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
Gundam 00 has some great music. The first OP “DAYBREAKS BELL” is by L'Arc~en~Ciel, it sounds fantastic, and works well with the anime. The first Ending “Wana” by The Black Thorn, also works for the anime, and is very well done. The quality of the music doesn't stop with the OP and ending, in the show one's emotions can be brought more into the mood of the situations with the music played.

Overall the anime has a lot to offer. Taking old concepts from previous Gundam series, and presenting them in a new, original way. The characters have interesting backgrounds that are slowly revealed over time. The fights, although seemingly one sided at first, are intense, and are sure to catch the viewer's interest. This anime is definitely worth a chance, and does not disappoint.
